The Science of Sleep: Multilayer Foam Comfort
Exploring the architectural layers of our signature Everest mattresses designed for Chennai's climate.
By Everest Craft Team
Sleep is not a passive state, but an active biological recovery period. And yet, many of us spend our nights tossing and turning on standard, mass-produced mattresses that fail to support our unique spinal curvature or trap excessive body heat.
At Everest Foam & Lining, we have spent over four decades studying sleep ergonomics. Our conclusion? A perfect sleep system cannot be built with a single block of foam. It requires a scientifically mapped, multilayered approach that balances skeletal support, pressure relief, and heat dissipation—specifically tailored to the tropical Chennai weather.
Let's break down the anatomy of a premium Everest Custom Mattress.
Layer 1: The Core Foundation (High-Density Orthopedic Foam)
At the bottom of every mattress sits our 80-Density Rebonded or Orthopedic Foam. This is the structural engine of the mattress.
- The Function: It prevents your hips from sagging too deep, maintaining the natural alignment of your spine (the lordotic curve).
- The Benefit: Eliminates lower back pain and provides a stable foundation that never dips or sags, even after years of use.
Layer 2: The Transition Zone (High-Resilience Latex-Feel Foam)
Above the solid foundation, we introduce a layer of high-resilience (HR) latex-hybrid foam.
- The Function: It acts as a shock absorber and provides an active rebound.
- The Benefit: It makes moving or turning in bed effortless. Standard memory foam creates a "quicksand" sinking sensation which increases body heat and makes turning difficult; our HR layer ensures a responsive, buoyant feel.
Layer 3: The Pressure Relief Zone (Breathable Open-Cell Profile Foam)
This is where comfort meets science. We contour this layer with specialized profiles (egg-crate or wave cuts) to create air-flow channels.
- The Function: Distributes body weight evenly across pressure points (shoulders, hips, ankles) to minimize blood flow restriction.
- The Benefit: Drastically reduces the urge to toss and turn, resulting in longer cycles of uninterrupted REM sleep.
Layer 4: The Climate Shield (Bamboo-Cotton Quilting)
Chennai's humidity is the biggest enemy of a good night's rest. Standard polyester mattress fabrics trap sweat and elevate skin temperature.
- The Fabric: We quilt the top layer with natural Bamboo-Cotton fibers or premium knitted viscocel.
- The Benefit: Natural bamboo is naturally anti-bacterial, hypoallergenic, and highly moisture-wicking. It actively lowers skin temperature by up to 2°C, keeping you cool throughout the humid Chennai nights.
Customization: The Everest Signature
No two bodies are identical. A 90kg side-sleeper requires an entirely different foam configuration than a 60kg back-sleeper. When you order an Everest mattress, we consult with you, measure your sleeping profiles, and build a mattress with a custom firmness index (from soft-plush to orthopedic-extra-firm) specifically for you.
